Managing Power & Vulnerability in Intimate Relationships

Often, despite best intentions, efforts, and promises, intimate relationships fall into a pattern of disappointments, tension, hostility, and even sometimes physical altercations.

These professionally lead groups are designed to help people who are aware (or whose partners are telling them) that they are:

•    Constantly Criticizing and/or Irritable
•    Aggressive and Intimidating
•    Angry, Controlling, and/or Abusive

Power comes in many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and social.  These groups explore how we hold, use, and sometimes give away or abuse our own power in intimate relationships.  While misusing power comes almost naturally, doing so causes mistrust, resentment, distance, dissatisfaction, and mutual suffering.

Related topics addressed in these groups include:

•    Anger Management
•    Communication and Relationship Skills
•    Boundaries
•    Gender Assumptions and Expectations
•    Family and Systemic Pressures and Strategies, from parenting to the impact of discrimination are addressed as well.

Aaron J. Feldman, LMFT’s approach is practical and direct yet compassionate and tailored to the personal experiences and specific needs of group members.  Safety and empowerment are primary and ongoing objectives.

Mr. Feldman has extensive training and experience running groups for both men and for women around issues of high conflict relationships.  He teaches Spousal/Partner Abuse courses for the JFK Graduate and CEU departments, and he has taught and trained on this and other topics at numerous other training institutions, agencies, and organizations.
